Confrontation Miniatures by Rackham

A conflict should have a few things besides miniatures. Here's a basic checklist:

  1. Ruler with clear markings for cm.
  2. 3 or more D6
  3. Several kinds of counters; pennies or poker chips are good choices. These can mark gems or wounds more quickly than a pencil and paper.
  4. Game rules including those for magic or miracles if these are present.
  5. Statistics for every miniature present and cards to represent them, called reference cards.
  6. Indicators for terrain on the game surface- a peice of paper for harsh terrain, a box for a hill, just something you will remember.
  7. Templates if needed for weapons or spells.

One thing you may dislike about this game is the reference cards. These are the cards with the characters and troops that are shuffled every round. You may not even have the corect number of cards if you got some of the promotional packs. If you want to protect your cards and want to look at them while moving your forces you can put them into a binder using trading card pages. Mark each plastic sleve with the number or letter on a playing card deck. If you have less than 14 you can sort the playing cards so there is the right number for each side and use suits to determine whose card it is. If you have more you can write names on the playing cards, use 2 suits per player, or use a tarrot deck.

Dice: Any 6 sided dice will do for the game but "casino" dice are more random. Those that are light and rounded can be easily altered to give a less random result.

Artilery template: If an artillery shot using a template misses it will randomly land near the target. Roll a dice, multiply it by 2, and add 2 to that. That determines how many centimeters it is off by. Then place the template with "1" pointing in the direction of the shot. Roll the dice again and use the numbers to determine a random direction for the stray explosion. Start at the original target and move the template to the new location. This image is just an example, don't use it as is.(not sure about the exact size.)
