3. SOCIALIZIN'
JUST TALK TO ANYONE YOU SEE. [STAND CLOSE TO THEM AND USE
THE "C" KEY] ALMOST EVERYONE HELPS YOU IN SOME WAY.
HIT "P" TO LOOK AT YOUR MENU DURING THE GAME. ON
THE RIGHT SIDE PICTURES OF YOUR FRIENDS WILL APPEAR. TO GET NEW FRIENDS
TRY TO SOLVE PUZZLES AND GET NEW ITEMS.
FRIENDS CAN HAVE VARIOUS EFFECTS ON THE GAME BUT GENERALLY
YOU JUST WANT TO COLLECT THEM IN YOUR MENU. YOU CAN ONLY HAVE 1 GIRLFRIEND
AT A TIME AND SHE WILL APPEAR AT THE BOTTOM RIGHT.
When you get this fellow as a friend your fast-talk skill goes up.
Watch for the effect a friend might have later.
Some characters won't talk to you yet but they usually tell you why.
VENDORS
Some people will buy, sell, or trade items or weapons.
You can't have 2 of anything at a time. Some people, like the owner of
the COHNEY ISLAND, will do different things depending on what you have
and how much money you have.
GIRLFRIENDS
There are a few girls in town willing to date you. Just talk
to them to see if you're smooth enough to ask them yet.
Once you get a date [the screen will say "DATE SET"]
it will play out as soon as you go into the COHNEY ISLAND restaurant.
The trick is to have the right item in you inventory while avoiding ones
that particular girl doesn't like. Other things like running out of cash
usually affect your date.
DATE RESULTS
The girl won't tell you how your date went but just watch
what happens. If it's a bad date nothing will happen and there will be
no girlfriend in bottom right of the menu. A normal date will put the
girl in the menu. This just means she likes you and will also appear at
a special spot in the game. It doesn't usually help that much. If you
really impress her with a perfect date she'll give you a important bonus
like an item. You don't need to do any dating to get through the game,
it's optional.
